Green Screen in Leicester
Green Screen, a Grow Wild community project in Leicester, have been transforming a space in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter next to the fantastic Phoenix cinema.
The new garden is right beside the car park so by transforming it into a green oasis the young volunteers hope to engage the whole community in nature and the environment.
This summer, they got members of the community involved in the project by hosting a willow craft work shop in the garden, with international willow artist Tom Hare on hand offering amazing tuition and tips.
Tom also got ideas from the community for a huge willow screen that he is constructing for the reinvigorated garden! When complete, the screen will stand at nine feet tall, forming a striking border for the area.
Everyone was welcome at this family fun day as Tom talked visitors through the process of creating their very own willow sculptures.
There were also volunteer gardening experts on hand to share some green fingered tips and trick as well as lots of brilliant knowledge about native plants and flowers.
