Our workforce includes lots of individuals with learning difficulties and disabilities. They want to create an area that is accessible for everyone, which also helps local wildlife and promotes Welsh heritage

Our wildflower and crafts garden will be open for all staff, learners, volunteers and visitors to enjoy. The materials and produce from our project will be sold locally so everyone can enjoy what we grow!

Volunteering opportunities / Upcoming events

Young adults at Coleg will take the lead in running the project. We also have volunteers from the local community & from around the world. We hope that this year, the whole of Wales will help us look for native seeds

What we've been up to

A group of trainees and volunteers made mosaic stepping stones for the garden. Once these are dried we will put them out on our plot 10/12/2015 - 09:00 7 Mixed ages

Our team of volunteers have been out in all weather, sowing local wildflower meadow seed on our plot 28/09/2015 - 10:00 8 Mixed ages

Our team of woodworking students have been hard at work over the past few months, making us a pair of gorgeous benches to use on our plot 01/07/2015 - 15:45 12 Mixed ages
Planting was rained off this afternoon, so we did a little indoor gardening instead! Mosses & stones were scavenged from our local area 14/09/2015 - 13:30 8 20 – 25 years
We have been planting out our cuttings the past couple of weeks. We have been propagating local flora for our site 07/09/2015 - 09:30 14 20 – 25 years
We held a talk about hedgehogs and invited members of our local community. We talked about what they can do to help hedgehogs in our area 19/08/2015 - 17:30 19 Mixed ages
We made seeded paper, using scrap paper and wildflower seeds collected from a site nearby last year. It can be planted to grow wildflowers 27/07/2015 - 09:00 6 20 – 25 years
Picking & drying calendula petals, to make resources for our soap making group. Calendula has wonderful healing and soothing properties 13/07/2015 - 12:00 4 20 – 25 years
We made the most of the sunshine, and planted up the remaining thousand wildflower plugs this week! We can't wait to see the flowers 06/07/2015 - 12:00 6 Mixed ages

Nearly a thousand (native welsh!) wildflower plugs were delivered to us today. All hands were roped in to help us unload and water them 29/06/2015 - 10:15 8 Mixed ages
Everyone got together to help us move 3 tonnes of locally sourced gravel, to create a path through our future wildflower plot 22/06/2015 - 10:15 15 Mixed ages

Over the past week, everyone has been helping us rake away the old grass and weeds, ready to plant the field with wildflowers 04/05/2015 - 08:45 20 Mixed ages
Our farmer came today to plough our field, ready for us to begin work sowing wildflowers and to create a craft resources garden 20/04/2015 - 09:00 3 Mixed ages
In November 2014, learners at Coleg collected old and broken items and sowed wildflowers in them. They are just starting to sprout now! 16/04/2015 - 09:00 10 20 – 25 years
Our volunteers got together to sow a variety of heritage vegetable seeds, donated by the Heritage Seed Library 02/04/2015 - 08:00 7 20 – 25 years
Using cuttings donated to us from a local grower, we've planted a willow bed. It will be used for future sculptures and craft products 23/03/2015 - 09:00 6 Mixed ages
A group of trainees renovated the hedgehog shed, where sick hedgehogs go to recover before being released back into the wild 18/03/2015 - 09:00 5 20 – 25 years
Our first achievement has been to receive the Grow Wild grant. This is the first large project that Greg has planned and budgeted for 03/03/2015 - 11:15 40 20 – 25 years
