We know this will have been a difficult and uncertain time for you all. We really hope that you, your friends and family have stayed safe and well.

The Grow Wild team is delighted to now be back up and running, below you will find an update on the projects and the next steps for applicants.

for people aged 14-25, anywhere in the UK

Decision making
We’re totally committed to you amazing people who applied in March, so pleased feel reassured, you are very much still in the running for a grant!

We’ve experienced a big delay due to the pandemic. If your projects were to start soon, we’d be heading into the autumn and winter, which is sadly not the best time to be starting a growing project, or getting people attending activities outdoors. It’s also still early days in the easing of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions and many uncertainties remain.

For these reasons, we have decided that we will:

  • Hold the decision-making panel in April 2021

  • Allocate grants to successful projects in May 2021.

This will enable projects to run during next summer, 2021.  We'll be keeping in touch and confirming exact dates nearer the time, you will also have the opportunity to make some changes to your project idea if you need to. So please keep an eye on your email inbox.

We know you will be disappointed about this...

We’re really sorry for this delay. We hope you will understand our reasons for this new timeline. We’ve made this decision because we want to give you the best possible experience and chance to succeed with your plans.

We know you will have questions…

Please have a read of the Q&A’s below  - we’ve tried to answer your most burning queries. If there’s something you are still unsure about, please get in touch with us.

What else?...

As promised, everyone who applied for a grant in March this year will be sent a fungus growing kit this autumn, as a thank you for all your efforts and patience!

The kits contain everything you need to grow your own UK- native, edible grey oyster mushrooms indoors. See them in action here! We’ll be in touch to check where you would like us to post your kit.

You will also be able to access our free online learning resources, with lots of new content coming out in the next few months. Keep an eye out for updates on our website and social media channels.

You’re a really important group in our Grow Wild community and we’ll be working hard to bring you lots to do and get involved with.

Questions and Answers

I’m disappointed that the UK-wide creative projects won’t be funded until next year, why have you decided this?

We know you will be disappointed and we’re really sorry about this.

We’ve now missed the spring/early summer growing season for this year. If we started the projects this summer we would be heading into autumn and winter. Many of you would find your projects difficult to complete during the winter months and would not get the most from the opportunity.

We hope that the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic will continue to improve, but we don’t know for sure what will happen over the next few months. We’re also allowing time to monitor this situation and to learn more about how to adapt activities safely.

I applied for a UK-wide creative project grant in March, but I don’t know what my plans will be next year. What if I can’t do my project?

We know a year is a long time and things may have changed for you.

We’ll be in touch prior to April 2021 to check you would still like your application to be considered. We’ll also give you the chance to make some changes to your original idea if needed.

Why can the London based exhibition grants start this autumn?

We’re able to do this because applicants are required to produce an individual artwork, so things like the growing seasons and weather are less important.

It’s also easier for these projects to be completed successfully from home, should tighter lockdown restrictions be re-introduced by the government.

If I applied for a UK-wide creative project grant in March, but I live in London - can I now apply for a London exhibition grant?

Yes you can, as long as you are aged 18-25. But you will need submit a new application for the London exhibition. Please read the full details about how to apply here.

Please contact us before you make your application.

If you are successful in applying for the London exhibition, your original application for a UK-wide creative project grant will be withdrawn, to give somebody else an opportunity.
