Colour Me Wild at Furnace to Flowers

Saturday 13th August saw the Colour Me Wild event at our Wales flagship site, Furnace to Flowers in Ebbw Vale, bring in loads of people from the area for a fun day of live music, wild flowers and sunshine!

The Grow Wild team were on hand to make everyone extra sparkly with our ever-popular glitter shed. Loads of people stopped by for a chat and to send a post card of wild flowers to their future self – including the lovely Sharon and Tanya from the Gwent Police!

It was a fun packed day with loads of activities for all the family. Grow Wild youth project Pain in the Arts performed their absolutely brilliant Book of Growth, teaching children and parents all about how to sow and grow a wild flower patch to attract lots of insects and animals to your garden! Especially bees…

In homage to the history of the site as a former steel works, artist Cindy Ward exhibited some of her amazing steel sculptures and ran an artist’s workshop. Anybody could get involved, creating their own steel flowers – quite literally from furnace to flowers!

Blaenau Gwent MP Nick Smith also dropped by and had a chat with Grow Wild Programme Manager Philip Turvil, Wales Partnership Manager Maria Golightly and Furnace to Flowers project lead Veronika Brannovic. Thanks for coming Nick – hope you had a fantastic day!

It was busy for the rest of the afternoon, with loads of great performances on the main stage! The Abertillery Youth Drama and Music Society put on an amazing show (after getting glittered up in the Grow Wild bio glitter shed!)

There was also a really atmospheric show by Puppet Soup Theatrical Puppeteers…

And lots more fun all through the day! Thank so much to everyone who made it down!
