Here are our fungi winners for 2018!

We have our winners! Drumroll please...........

The winners of our What's in a Name? competition are...

Shiitake Happens

Speaking about their victory, Eilidh said,

"We were already very proud of Shiitake Happens (and its spawn Shiitake Just Got Real) and have enjoyed the whole process so much – winning the ‘What’s in a name?’ competition is the cherry on top.

Thank you Grow Wild for creating this opportunity, who knew growing fungi could be so full of drama, anticipation and thrills? We’ve loved the online support and advice from the growing community all across the country and can’t wait to experiment with growing more plants and fungi."

Meanwhile, our resident expert, Lee Davies, has donned his official judging coat:

He has proclaimed the winners of Best in Show are...

Katie and Austin, with their fungus named Boop

The team behind this fantastic fungus said. "We may be a small team but our meticulous efforts and great care that went into the cultivation of our fungi was enough for an army."

Katie and Austin are excited about their win,

"We are truly honoured and proud to be crowned rulers of the fungi kingdom! For anyone considering growing their own fungus we would highly recommend this challenge as it’s been extremely rewarding in many ways.

Endless thanks to all at Grow Wild for giving us this opportunity and we hope you enjoy viewing our fungus, Boop, as much as we enjoyed eating him!"

A special mention has to go to Elise and Chris  with their Fungus Amongus and Catrise, whose mushroom exploded from its bag while they were on holiday! Theirs were tremendous efforts - as were so many entries - we were amazed by the level of fungus growing skill around the country.

Both winning teams will receive a highly coveted fungi trophy and the honour of winning, which is of course, priceless.

Odd but awesome

We also have an extra category: odd but awesome. These fantastic fungi deserve a special mention and their photos immortalised as a wonderful example of the infinite diversity, beauty and strangeness of the fungi kingdom:
